Obituary
WONFOR, Reverend Herbert ….
Rev. Herbert Wallace Wonfor (1924-2015). With sadness, the family of Herb Wonfor announces his death on September 3rd at his late residence, Grand Wood Park, London. Herb was the beloved husband of Margaret (nee Brown) for 58 years. His memory will be cherished by his five children: Janet O’Brien (Kevin), Ruth Beggs, John (Siva Swaminathan), Katherine, and Alison Gibbs (Stephen) and his grandchildren: Andrea and Jeffrey Beggs, Isaac and Rachel Gibbs, Gabriel O’Brien (Meaghan), Jeffrey O’Brien and Swetha Wonfor and great-granddaughter, Addison O’Brien. He is survived by a brother-in-law James Brown and his wife Eunice of Nepean, ON. Herb was born in Montreal, the son of the late John and Gertrude Wallace Wonfor. He was predeceased by his only brother John and sister-in-law Pat. Herb was educated in the Protestant School System in Westmount, QC and at McGill University where he received degrees in Science, Commerce and Divinity. In 1952 he was ordained a minister of the United Church of Canada and during 38 years of pastoral ministry served congregations in Peace River, AB; Ottawa; Hudson, QC; Clinton, Maidstone, Windsor and Durham. He also served the United Church through his contribution in various committees at the Presbytery, Conference and General Conference level. Upon retirement in 1990, Herb and Margaret moved to London where they participated as volunteers in church and community life. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Grand Wood Park for care and kindness over the past few months and also to the palliative care team of the V.O.N. whose expertise and compassionate care gave us strength for the trials of the past few weeks. Friends will be received by the family from 6-8 pm on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street, South, London. A service of thanksgiving for Herb’s life will be held at Wesley-Knox United Church, 91 Askin Street, London on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11 am. Interment will be held at the Tiverton Cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Mission and Service Fund: The United Church of Canada, 3250 Bloor Street West, Suite 300, Toronto, ON M8X 2Y4. Margaret, My thoughts are with you and your family. I remember fondly your and Herb’s presence at Kent’s 75th celebration in 2012. So happy to have a recording and pictures of that event as Kent died in January this year. Sweet memories are what we all have to cherish of a precious, fulfilled life.

Dear Margaret and Family: I am sorry I am not able to join you on Saturday as you celebrate Herb’s life. I remember his leadership in key administrative roles for the church. I loved having the chance to hear more when Margaret talked with me. May God be with you and comfort you as you celebrate the faithful service of this dedicated minister. Shalom, Cheryl-Ann
Dear Margaret and family. It was with sadness that I read of Herb’s passing. So many times since our days at Wesley-Knox, I have bumped into you both and always without exception, Herb took time to chat and reminisce about our times together. A delightful, funny, caring man, I know he will be missed by many.
Dear Margaret,
After a long fruitful and varied time together your beloved Herb is separated from you. How the memories come flooding back, and I am sure they are good. I am remembering all those lovely Christmas pictures you used to send as well as the fine visit we had together here in Victoria a few years back. Thinking of you, the girls and their families with much love.
Affectionately, Clare Lowery
Dear Katherine & family,

Dear Margaret,
Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of your beloved Herb; I’m so sorry. He was such a gentle man and a gentleman! How well I remember both of you in our work together in London Conference. Am not sure I can attend the visitation; but do know my caring thoughts are with you and your family.
Affectionately, Norma Clare
