Rita and I have very fond memories of Jack. He was a dedicated member of St. James Westminster Anglican Church for many, many years and we happily recall his warm, enthusiastic, thumbs-up welcome as we attended Sunday services. Condolences to the family. Rest in Peace, Jack….A Life Well Travelled.

I always smile thinking about Jack; after finally convincing him to leave his weaving, there he’d be, peddling himself upstairs, singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, or You are My Sunshine. He was an exceptional person and will be missed by us all at Veterans Arts.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Atkins as a young boy attending St. James Westminster. Although I was just a child, I remember Jack treating me with the same dignity and respect as a peer. Many years later when I was ordained an Anglican Priest, I had the good fortune of spending some time with Jack at Parkwood Hospital. I remember one glorious sun filled day, Jack felt like spending some time outdoors. I walked with Jack in his wheel chair around the scenic grounds at the back of Parkwood and he shared many stories of his time in the Navy with me. We prayed and shared in the Holy Eucharist that day. I remember leaving that meeting thankful that God had given us that afternoon to spend together. A true gentleman has made his way into God’s eternal kingdom.
