Obituary
WEST, Roger Douglas….
Passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in his 82nd year. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen West, parents Harry and Marjorie (Ashton) and brother Eric. Survived by Michael and Donna Fleury (Kamloops), Paul and Susan Fleury (London), a number of very cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many supportive relatives. A graduate of Ryerson (broadcasting) and Western University (Law), Roger enjoyed a number of years on Radio and Television at CKNX in Wingham. He was also a popular radio program host on CFPL in London. Roger was also a candidate for the Ontario Legislature in 1968 and continued to be actively involved in politics throughout his life. Upon passing the bar, Roger set up his own law office before becoming the Executive Director of the Medical Laboratories Association of Ontario. Roger also worked as a lawyer for Immigration Canada. In later years and as a very accomplished pianist, Roger often enjoyed playing the piano for residents of several nursing homes in London. Roger was loved and supported by his very devoted wife, Helen. Their travels together took them to several destinations around the world. Both were also active in community development activities – particularly minor hockey. All in all, his was a life well lived. Cremation has already taken place with internment at the Teeswater Cemetery. A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Windermere Manor, 200 Collip Circle, London. My deepest sympathy
Roger and I were members of the Assessment Review Board. We held many hearings together.
He and Helen lived around the corner from us in Byron and I shared the produce from my garden with them. He will be missed
Roger was a close friend and a long-time active supporter of the National Association of Federal Retirees. We enjoyed his lively wit, sense of humour and keen insight into local, provincial and national politics. Our sympathies to his family and many friends.
We had the honour of meeting Roger on several occasions…he was the MC at our friend’s wedding.I could have talked to him all night..witty,informed,,a genuine gentleman. He will be missed!
So very sorry to learn of Rogers death, We had only reconnected on Jan 10 and were to meet soon. So tragic. I remember well our time on the OMAL board travelling together often. A real gentleman and gifted musician. Sadness. Trevor

“Uncle Roger” is how I knew him for a large portion of my life being best friends with his niece Dale since our teens.. He was a kind and funny man…my memories are filled with good times and snippets of his “down to earth” wisdom. A Chinese proverb says, “The miracle is not to fly in the air, or to walk on the water, but to walk on the earth.” Roger’s miracle is that he walked on the earth with a quiet joy. You could see his delight at living shine from his expressive eyes and infectious smile. How true the description of Uncle Roger as a true gentleman in some of the other condolences. It defines him to a tee! Much love sent to the West family and all who mourn his passing. Karen and Bill
Sorry to hear Roger is gone. Roger was one of the most relaxed and competent broadcasters I had the pleasure to work with during my early career at CKNX. I will always remember Christmas Day 1965. As the junior announcer I was scheduled to work. Roger was in the station. He insisted I Iet him finish my shift so we could drive to Bright in time for Christmas Dinner. His relaxed demeanour was matched by his kindness. He will be missed. He will be remembered.
I am sorry to hear that Roger has passed. I worked for Roger in his law firm. He was a kind considerate, gentleman. I will always remember him as such.
We are all very saddened by the loss of our Brother-in- Law, and Uncle. The man was a constant source of strength and humour. Through phone calls and emails, there was a constant flow of funny stories, football talk, and a never ending support and wisdom. We will miss you very much…say Hi to Dad for us, Love
