VINCE, Stanley S.C.G….
Stanley S.C.G. Vince passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Parkwood Institute, London at the age of 95. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Margaret Beth Vince (nee Tufford), RN. Stan and Beth were married on July 26, 1947 in Fingal, Ontario during the final years of WWII. Beth was a nurse in St. Thomas and Stan served in the R.C.A.F. as an aircrew navigator in the European theatre of wartime operations. He is predeceased by his father Group Captain Archibald George Vince MBE born in County of Hampshire, England, his mother Dorothea Mary Vince (nee Lee), an honoured chef born in County of Devon, England, his sister Nancy Mahala Beatrice, his brothers Leslie Archibald Frank and Melville Lee, his niece Brenda Jane Vince and nephew Alex Tufford. Survived by nieces and nephews Carolyn Vince, Nancy Vince, Mary Waldick (Rod), Susan Andersen (Mike), Lyle McLean (Viola), Heather McLean, Bonnie Graham (Randy), Owen Tufford (Margaret), Stanley Tufford (Laura), Janice Tufford (John), Karen Brehn (Robert) and Ruth-Ann Lockhart (Bob). Also survived by sister-in-law Betty Vince. After the war Stan embarked on an oil industry managerial career with Supertest Petroleum, British Petroleum (BP) and Petro Canada where he retired in 1983 as a Manager, Systems and Administration. He was also a noted collector of memorabilia in a variety of interests and enjoyed many hobbies including genealogy, reading, collaborating on a book about his mother (Storming the Castle: The World of Dora and the Duchess) and travelling with his Beth. Stan’s father left him with a quote that he lived his life by “You Cannot be Bored”. And he filled each day to the fullest. Visitation will be held from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church, 489 Pinetree Drive, London, ON N6H 3M9. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, please consider tributes to his family church St. Martin-in-the-Fields or the charity of your choice. Sorry to hear of Stan’s passing. He was a very interesting man, and his service to our country during the war was greatly appreciated. I was glad I had the chance to meet him, and Beth, two remarkable people who lived through extraordinary times.
