You are right, a sweet, gentle soul who loved his family. I spoke with Jan on Friday last week and he was still full of conversation about his family. My condolences to your family. I will miss Jan.
Karen, Wayne and families,
We are sending our sincere condolences.
A long well lived life. We treasure the memories of our visits back and fort when tante trien and tante janny visited Canada.

Fondly remembered
Jan sold us our first home in London in 1978. We have fond memories of time spent over the years, especially when he rode his bike to visit my parents in Byron, and later lunches at Red Lobster! He was a true gentleman.
Jan was our realtor when we bought our house. We were dealing with rather difficult owners and Jan was able to guide us through the purchase because of his even temper, kindness and integrity. He was a true gentleman and will be missed.
Lieve Ome Jan
Wat vind ik het fijn dat ik u heb leren kennen. Rust zacht!

We are so sorry to read of Jan’s passing. He made such an impact on us when he so graciously searched for a new home for us 35 years ago. Our daughters were just 6 and 3 and he enjoyed having them on the hunt with us (even if they did want to jump on the beds!) He sent us a Christmas card that first year and we kept up the exchange. I will particularly miss being able to catch Jan up on our family news as I always included it in our Christmas card to him. He was so kind and such a gentleman, I’m sure he will be greatly missed but always fondly remembered.
Karen, Steve and family. So sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. Cherish your many wonderful memories as they will be a comfort to you in the future. Kathy, Mike and Stacy Brooks
So sorry for your loss!
One of my friends was once a long term tenant in Jan’s home. He treated her like family. She was very lucky to enjoy his beautiful backyard garden as was I on occasion. Sometime Jan would join us for a glass and conversation. He was a generous and kind soul. My condolences to his family.
Sincere condolences to Jan’s family. Jan was a very kind, generous, and good friend to our family, and especially Tony and Lise. He will remain an inspiration to us and will be missed.
Over the years we had many good times together. Lots of trips to Port Stanley and having coffee breaks at Timmy’s. You will always stay in my heart. Goodbye to my good friend. Rest in peace.
My thoughts are with Karen, Stephen,Wayne, Joanne and all other family members.
Such a blessing to have known Jan.
My condolences to all family and friends.
Our deepest sympathy to Karen and Stephen, Wayne and Joanne, sisters, Janni and Trine and the grandchildren who all visited and adored Opa as he did them.
We feel feel badly that what we wrote and sent last Tuesday, (Sept, 29th) in the car on the way north seems to have been lost.
Jan was such a close friend and travelling companion-even to Holland with our bicycles in the ’90s, where we enjoyed the hospitality of Jan’s family and his guidance through nord Holland.
His many friendships were lasting ones through his years in the grocery business in Wallaceburg and his many years in real estate in London and after his retirement at 75.. He was sincere very perceptive and gave good advice. He kept active with lots of gardening, cycling, golfing, curling and walking. He was an avid reader and a wonderful cook, so often sharing his successes with friends and family. He will be remembered always by the many whose lives he touched.

I was so very sorry to hear of Jan’s passing. I knew him for many years at work and as a neighbour. We shared many conversations about books, movies, politics and gardening. He was an inspiration and role model for me in his lifestyle and intellect. I walk by his house everyday and think of the times we spent on the porch with my late dog Ginger, who adored him in a way that she had for no one else. I will miss him but will always remember his gentle way.
Just saw the obituary of your Dad. Our sincere condolences to you Wayne, Karen and extended families. Had my first job with him at IGA in Wallaceburg. Good man to work for. Our prayers to you all as you go on without his presence, nice to have lots of memories to share at gatherings.
To Jans family: Very glad to have had a good visit this summer past with Jan one last time. We knew him for over 45 years and have many many treasured memories. He will be missed.
We were sad to learn of Jan’s passing recently. Our condolences to his family. He was kind, gentle and wise. We were tenants in his beautiful home on Wortley when we were in our late 20s. We had many great conversations about cycling, his humble life in Holland and his family. He sold us our first and second homes. We were grateful that were able to visit with him a few years ago. Generous as always, he gave us a jar of his homemade jam. In sympathy, Marnie & Dave Kloppenburg
