Obituary
LAWSON, Velma…
Peacefully at University Hospital, London with her family by her side on Saturday, January 7, 2023, Velma A. Lawson in her 100th year. Predeceased by her husband W.R. “Bill” Lawson (1983), infant son Douglas (1950), and her brother Lloyd Baty (2006). Dear mother of Don (Karen) Lawson, Bob (Lori) Lawson, and Lynn (Gary) Kelly. Beloved grandma of Lindsey (Rob) Cook, Allyscia (Charlie) Leibold, Shannon (Brian) Partridge, Holly Kelly, and Sarah Lawson. Affectionate great-grandma of Addison, Piper, Archer, and Charlotte.
Velma was born to Robert Baty and Carrie Lumsden, and grew up on the Baty family farm, went to Pond Mills one-room schoolhouse, and after, to London Central Collegiate. After retiring from London Life, she enjoyed travelling the world with her husband Bill, her brother Lloyd, and her close friends Eileen Beattie, Peggy Murray and Jean Ollson. Velma enjoyed a long life – she was independent, never having to go into a nursing home, and her mind remained as sharp as ever, even until the end.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 10-11 am at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. The funeral service will be held at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Pond Mills Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Humane Society London & Middlesex, 624 Clarke Road, London, ON N5V 3K5 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 500-55 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, ON M4V 2Y7. To the Lawson Family
Our deepest condolences to the entire family. Your mom, grandmother and great grandmother was the nicest lady and lived a long and fruitful life. She was my mother’s best friend and that friendship was passed along to our family and is greatly cherished.
A long lived life, with memories that will be treasured, Don and Karen you have been blessed to have her for all these years. May her beautiful angel wings take her straight to heaven ?? Her memory will live in your hearts forever.??.
To Don & Family
Truly sorry for your loss, although we did not meet your mum we heard a lot from a friend of the family that she was a strong, independent and beautiful person. May she rest in peace.
Your Mum was a lovely, kind person. She enjoyed being with her family and friends so much. I feel very fortunate to have been included in some of the fun times over the years. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Allyscia & Charlie, Bob & Lori: Our thoughts are with you guys as you say goodbye to this wonderful lady. She will be greatly missed but you will have lots of wonderful memories.
Love to all.
Dear Don, Bob, Lynn and families – we were saddened to hear of your mom’s passing. She had an amazing long life, and was a gracious lady. She is the end of a special era for our family. Her friendship and stories will be greatly missed.
To all the Lawson family. So sorry for your loss of your mother. She will definitely be missed at our Kelly family get together. Thinking of all of you during this difficult time.
We miss Velma’s presence on our floor and want to express our sympathy to her caring family. At 100, she was a real trouper and joined us playing our ukuleles and singing Happy Birthday to those celebrating on our floor. We regret that we cannot attend her funeral due to Richards immobility.
We pray that God’s comfort and peace be with you all and know she is at peace without suffering. She has fought the good fight. Blessings on all her precious family. Richard and Vi
Our condolences to all the Lawson family. You may not remember us but we have fond memories of your Mom from First Westminster United Church and Community events over many years. She was a lovely lady and will be missed by all who knew her. Our sincere sympathy at this sad time.

My condolences on the passing of your mother Bob and Lori. What a long life she led! You must have a million great memories.
My heart aches and breaks as we say goodbye to the last of a generation in our family. Farewell, for now, dear sweet cousin Velma. You were the big sister, which she never had, to my mother and then later became a dear friend to me. You were one of the nicest people I ever knew. Heaven has been enriched even that much more now with your added presence.
To Bob, Don, and Lynn, you have been so blessed to have had your lovely mother with you for so many years. I know that you will miss her dearly. Please take comfort in the fact that she always spoke of how she was so blessed to have had such wonderful, caring children as you in her life.
Although I am so far away, physically, I stand along side of you in spirit as we quietly grieve the loss from our lives of this lovely lady; your mother and my cousin Velma. God bless you all.
