Obituary
BASSIL, Winnifred “Ann”…
September 2, 1938 – April 13, 2026
Winnifred “Ann” Bassil passed peacefully on April 13, 2026 at the age of 87. Ann is predeceased by her parents Reginald and Winona Bassil, brother Richard Bassil (Jill), her son Steven Anderson (Gloria), as well as her nephew Allan Bassil.
Ann is survived by her devoted daughter Tracey (Jeff) Siderius (nee Anderson), granddaughters Emily Siderius (Nick), Stephanie Siderius, Courtney Anderson (Derek), and Natalie Anderson (Lachlan).
She is fondly remembered by niece Jennifer Kaluzniak (Darryl), nephew Chris Bassil (Barb), as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ann was born in Innisfail, Alberta and spent her childhood on farms in Olds, Didsbury, and Dewinton area. She moved to Calgary in 1950 and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Holy Cross Hospital in 1960. She married Robert William (Bob) Anderson and headed East to Windsor, Ontario, where she started her career in a neurosurgical operating room. In 1966, the family moved to Dorchester, Ontario where Ann worked as a Secretary for St. David’s Catholic School and as a Receptionist and Instructor for St. John’s Ambulance. After 38 devoted years of marriage, Bob and Ann divorced.
Ann was a faithful and active member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Dorchester for 52 years in all capacities. Her passion for floral design led her to join the London Health Science Centre’s Auxiliary, volunteer in their Flower and Gift Shop, and hold membership with the local Horticultural Society.
Her love of sports included NHL Hockey, Blue Jays Baseball, the Olympics, Curling, and her beloved Spruce Meadows. Ann loved horses.
Caring for Ann since 2018, were Dr. George Kim and the attentive, kind, supportive staff of the Dearness Home in London, Ontario. Each of them played a meaningful role in her comfort and wellbeing. Their kindness, professionalism, and dedication touched her life, and ours, deeply. We are profoundly grateful. Special kudos to Mom’s hairdresser, Roz.
To my cherished friend Billie Latham, you are a blessing and I love you. T
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
