Obituary
BAILIE, Ruth…
Peacefully at Victoria Hospital, London, on February 23, 2024, Ruth Margaret Bailie passed away at age 91. She was born on July 26, 1932, in Mitchell, Ontario, the eldest daughter of Harriet and Gorden Kraemer.
Ruth graduated from teacher’s college in 1951, and was on the original staff of Byron Southwood Public School, where she taught for 4 years. She loved to garden and spent countless hours tending to her vegetables and beautiful flower beds. She was very proud of the awards they won from the London Horticultural Society. Ruth was an active member of the Byron United Church for over 60 years. Before Covid shut them down, her Hi-Neighbour Group made and sold nearly 100,000 meat pies, donating the proceeds to the Church and Teen Challenge. She was a long-time member of the Byron Opti-Mrs. and belonged to a ladies bowling league at Fleetway for many years. She enjoyed monthly euchre games and cheering on the London Knights.
Ruth was married to her best friend, Harvey Bailie, for over 50 years, until his passing in 2007. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter-in-law, Kyla Quigley, and brother-in-law, Ivan Norris. She leaves four children to cherish her memory, Paul (Michelle) of Richmond Hill, Dave (Kathy) of California, Mark (Jennifer) of Napanee, and Julie (Dave) of Georgia; eight grandchildren, Scott, Ken (Vickie), Andrea (Andrew), Colin (Madeline), Shannon, Kevin, Natalie and Paisley; and two great-grandchildren, Wes and Jace. She will be missed by her brother Ron (Nancy) Kraemer, sister Betty Lou Norris, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to visitation on Monday, March 4, 2024 from 4:00-6:30 pm at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 11:00 am at Byron United Church, 420 Boler Road, London, ON N6K 2K5. Spring interment in Bethel Munro Cemetery, Fullarton.

I was sorry to hear your mom passed away Paul, Dave, Mark and Julie. I lived across the road from you. When I moved away and came home to visit i always visited your mom. She was kind enough to let me and my kids enjoy her pool. She always kept a beautiful garden. My sister Louise always kept up with her thru Christmas cards and shared that with me. Your mom had a long and productive life and was fortunate to stay in her home for as long as she could.
My condolences Julie, Paul, David, Mark with the passing of your mother. I lived across the road with sister and my parents from your family for many years. I remember when I came home to visit my parents I would go and visit with your mother and she would welcome me into her home. We chatted about all four of you and she would update me on your lives and how proud she was as to where your adult lives had taken you all. Her Christmas cards which included pages of handwritten letters always full of family news of all of you including what her grandchildren were doing that year. She indicated she so loved your Christmas ritual of her flying to Texas then back to spend the rest of the holiday with the family in Ontario. I am sure it was kaotic at times to make it work but all good memories. Julie I believe you came home to visit as well. Your mom also seemed to enjoy the yearly cottage holiday with those that were able to be. Her garden was her pride and joy. It was said once winter was over and your mom was seen in her front gardens spring had officially arrived. I am glad she was able to live in her home as long as she could.
Sending sincere condolences at this sad time. We enjoyed many chats prior to the Knights games. Ruth always had a special smile.
