Obituary
DOLMAN, Agneta Ulla Kristina…
March 1, 1944 – February 10, 2024
After a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Agneta passed away at home on Saturday, February 10th, 2024. Beloved wife and partner of the late Douglas for over 55 years, loving and supportive mother to Marcus and (Dee) Kristina Shepherd, mother-in-law to Krista and Jonathan, a loving “Farmor” to Madison and Erik and a wonderful “Mormor” to Anna, Katherine and Andrew.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden on March 1, 1944, to Kjell Ekling and Ulla Fagerlund, the first of three children, predeceased by her sister Birgitta Lindberg (Lars), survived by her brother Hans Ekling (Karin) cousins, nieces, and nephews in Sweden. Agneta and Doug spent 23 wonderful summers painting and drawing immersed in the culture and beautiful landscape on the island of Gotland, Sweden.
Graduate of Stockholm University in 1971 in Language and Linguistics and later graduate of Althouse College in London, Ontario, Agneta taught English as a Second Language for many years in both Sweden and Canada.
Agneta was an accomplished visual artist with exhibits in Canada, the US, and Sweden. She met Doug, her future husband, while studying at the School of Art and Design, MMFA, Montreal in 1964. Together they shared a life dedicated to Art and raising a family. Passionately believing drawing to be the base of all art making, Agneta began organizing life drawing sessions, together with friends, in the 1990’s at numerous locations in London including TAP, The Arts Project London.
As a member of Metropolitan United Church, Agneta served on many committees as Convenor of Time Out, Convenor of the Funeral Reception Committee, Member of the Board of Stewards, Hospitality Committee and Sanctuary Committee.
As a member of the Women’s Christian Association, she served on the Boards of Parkwood Hospital and McCormick Home from 1986-1992.
In accordance with Agneta’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. To celebrate Agneta’s life there will be a Retrospective Exhibition of her art announced at a future date. Cremation will be followed by a private committal and interment at the family grave in Hamilton, Ontario.

Agneta was a lovely person and a talented artist. I got to know her through the drawing sessions at TAP. I last chatted with her at a summer party at Pat Thibert’s, and she was a vibrant as ever.
En sista hälsning från Astrid och Owe
In 1983 Doug, Agneta, and my family all became members of Metropolitan United Church at the same joining ceremony. We have remained close friends ever since. After I acquired a Swedish daughter-in-law, the connection became even closer. Anne and I admire Agneta’s art work immensely and look forward to seeing the promised Retrospective.
Dear Dee and Marcus and families – we are saddened to hear of Agneta’s passing so soon after Doug’s. They sat in front of our family for many years in the west gallery. Both Al and I worked with Doug and Agneta on various committees. Metropolitan will not be the same without them. We are fortunate to have one of Agneta’s wonderful watercolours hanging in the parlour.
Our thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of two wonderful people.

To Marcus and Dee Please accept my condolences for you and Agneta’s grandchildren and family. Having provided studios for both your parents for more than 25 years, attended dinners at their home, visited their summer home in Sweden, shared thousands of coffee fikas with them, and seen all their exhibitions, I feel that I’ve lost two members of my own family. They were the centre and anchor of The Artworks, and set an example of discipline and steady work ethic as a model for other artists. A huge void has befallen the studios.
Agneta was a friendly, kind and gracious person and artist, full of vibrant energy!!! When I would knock at her studio door at the ArtWorks, where I also have a studio, she would gladly invite me in and we would sit and chat about life and art and whatnot. She and Doug, her late husband, were always at the “fikas”, where coffee and conversations flowed. She will most certainly be missed! My condolences to her loving family and close friends.
Good bye, for now, my dearest Agneta! We met over 20 years ago at the McIntosh Gallery! As an accomplished artist, you have inspired many others, including me! I’ll miss your joyful, easy going and caring personality! I’ll remember our time together visiting exhibits at galleries, having brunches and cooking together at home! I’ll never forget your phone call with thrilling excitement telling me you just sold the entire second floor art works from the Woodstock Art Gallery! Those are the beautiful memories I will treasure!
En sista hälsning från Gun Britt.
Vila i frid.
My heartfelt condolences to Agneta’s and Doug’s family. You’ve been her anchor during this difficult time.
I met Agneta when she had an exhibition at the McIntosh Gallery where I worked.
I enjoyed time with them either at fika or art openings, dinner. Agneta was a driving force of nature and I admired her energy.
To the family of Agneta my sincere condolences. It is tragic to loose both parents in such a short time. Agneta and Doug were always at Gallery openings in London, they were a big part of the London artistic community, and will be very much missed.
Agneta was full of energy. Reading her obituary, I am amazed how much of her time was spent on worth while causes in this community on top of her committment to her art.
Dear Dee and Marcus, The loss of your beautiful mother so shortly after your father’s passing is very tragic..Agneta was a very charming lady with a great heart and huge compassion for all..She was a rare gem..
