Obituary
McGUIRE, Elmer…
Elmer Russell McGuire in his 65th year passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, August 1st, 2016. Loving partner and best friend of Catherine Lawson. Special and supportive dad to David of Newmarket. Loving brother to Larry, Lee (Maxene) and Bryan (Angie); brother-in-law to John (Elizabeth), David (Rebecca), Brian (Val), Jane (Dan) and Susan (Rob). Proud uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. Will be greatly missed by his much loved four legged companion “Maddie Dog”. Predeceased by his parents, Russell (2016) Jean (2010) and his in-laws Ken (2000) and Barb (2007). Elmer served as a Toronto Police Officer from 1970-1987. He then went on to manage two successful businesses, Bryan’s Auto Centre with his brother Bryan and McGuire Management Systems until his retirement in 2015. El enjoyed simple pleasures … hosting dinner parties for his family and friends, a feast of Chinese food, a good game of Quiddler (as long as he won), cherry cheese cake, peanut butter cookies, an ice cold beer or drambuie. An avid golfer, Elmer and Cathy belong to the Echo Valley Golf Club where over many years they have shared countless rounds of golf… Elmer from the “appropriate” tees! But most importantly they have been blessed with lifelong friendships… Thank you Echo Valley and most recently Heritage Pines Florida friends. Please join the family for a Celebration of El’s Life, in your best golfing attire, on Saturday, August 6th, 2016 at 52 Tamarack Crescent, London, ON from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 180-633 Colborne Street, London, ON N6B 2V3. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted with A. Millard George Funeral Home, 519-433-5184. Online condolences, memories and photographs shared at www.amgfh.com .

Sending all our love, Cat. Elmer will be greatly missed. Loved his sense of humor and all around great guy. Elmer’s “golf rules” were legendary. We’ll remember him fondly.
Cathy, my condolences to you and David and all who were connected to Elmer. He’s gone far too soon, and I know he’ll be greatly missed. I envision quite the McGuire reunion on the other side, overflowing with love, and that’s what I’m sending to you. Love. Bless you. xo
My Uncle, Elmer McGuire, was a big guy with a huge heart. He was fun and silly, and loved a good laugh and a cold beer. He was competitive as can be at just about everything, which was always fun, because he hated to lose, but he always was gracious in victory or defeat.
He helped my father when my parents divorced, he helped my older brother when no one could, and he was a constant influence on my life, as to how a man should act towards others, with respect and compassion. He was a positive, sweet guy, and I will miss him. A lot.
Rest well, Elmer.
Love,
Joel
We will always have fond memories of how you took to the game of Quiddler and became an avid dictionary addict in pursuit of the perfect word. You lived life the same way: intensely pursuing whatever your interests. You will be missed.
WHEN WE REMEMBER
You can shed tears that he is gone
or you can smile because he has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all he’s left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what Elmer would want:
Smile
Open your eyes
Love
And go on

We were talking about Elmer, as we have many times this past while and thought how much he was a modern day Don Quixote; upholding high ideals, fighting to right wrongs and always a gentleman. We loved his sense of humour and the royal “we”. We feel very fortunate that our paths crossed and shall miss him very much.
My condolences to Cat. I had the privilege in life to meet Elmer two years ago at Echo Valley. I consider myself so lucky that I met him and could call him my friend. He always made me laugh and I will miss him. Sam
Elmer was one of the first of the London gang that we met in Heritage Pines walking his adorable Maddie. Will remember all the great times we have had together. Memories will remain always and continue with all the friends that Elmer has touched. Our kindest thoughts to Cat and family. Lorna and Tim
Our heartfelt condolences to Elmer’s family. It was so easy to smile when you were in Elmer’s presence. His warmth and caring will be missed.
We were so very fortunate to have had Elmer in our lives as a good Friend. He was a very warm, caring & giving man. Always there for whoever needed him.
His love for Cat, Maddie Dog & both of their large Families will be in our hearts forever. Love to All.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family. I always enjoyed our visits.
Keith.
Our sincere condolences to Cat and family. Elmer was one of a kind – always fun to be around, generous, gregarious and full of bonhomie. We will miss him.
I will miss you, my little buddy, (especially on the appropriate tees.)
Will miss you always little brother
Tribute to Elmer
God looked out on the 15th tee
And found an empty space.
Then, He looked straight down the fairway
And saw his smiling face.
He put his arms around him
And lifted him to rest.
God’s golf course must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
Elmer will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Cat, the love you shared will last forever.
Dear Cat, we are so sorry to hear of Elmer’s passing. We always enjoyed his sense of fun and subtle humour on the course and at social gatherings in Heritage Pines. He was a true gentleman. Our condolences and love to you and family.
We cannot believe “The Big Guy” is gone on to greater adventures and left us behind. Al will truly be missed for his off the wall humour, his endless golf rules, among so many other things, but most of all his friendship. Al was one of a kind and will be missed by all. Our sincere condolences to you Cat and our sympathies to all your family. We wish Elmer safe travels wherever that may be.
Your friends, Wendy & Terry
