Obituary
CUMMING, Thomas Donald (Don)…..
Thomas Donald (Don) Cumming died unexpectedly while on vacation in Salobrena, Spain, on January 25, 2015. Don is survived by his loving wife and best friend Kathy, daughter Glenda, son Thomas William and beloved grandson Kyle Thomas Cumming, son of Glenda, stepchildren Michele and Aldo Liberatore, Lisa and Peter Kennedy and their children Morgan and Alex Liberatore, Ian and Claire Kennedy. Don is predeceased by his parents William and Annie Cumming of Burnaby B.C., his daughter Catherine Lynn Cumming (2006) and his brother John Murdoch Cumming. Don was born in Williams Lake, B. C. in 1935 and spent his younger years in beautiful British Columbia before transferring to Toronto, then London. Don was a passionate and competitive athlete from a very young age. He excelled in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. He was a member of the PNE Junior Indians Lacrosse team, winning the Canadian National championship in 1954, but his true love was golf. His Dad inspired Don’s passion for golf and together they enjoyed many rounds of golf at the Langara Golf Club in Vancouver. He was a member of Sunningdale Golf and Country Club for 36 years. In the winter months he could be found playing squash at the London Squash and Fitness Club, passing on this passion to his beloved grandson Kyle. Don had a deep love for music and for many years sang Lead with The London Men of Accord Barbershop Harmony Society. Professionally Don worked for Safeco Insurance Company from 1962 until 1976 when he left to open his own general insurance brokerage. He was a member of the London Directors’ Club where he established many new and lasting friendships and business partnerships. Don’s way of giving back was volunteering and fundraising for the MS Society. In lieu of flowers, Don’s family asks that donations be made in his memory to the MS Society, London-Middlesex Chapter, 21 Grosvenor Street,Room # W018A, London, ON N6A 4V2.

We were so sorry to hear of Don’s sudden
passing. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
As neighbours for almost 30 years, we are all very saddened by the loss of our dear friend Don. Many happy memories come to mind: sharing chats over the fence; extra vegetables from the garden; snow shoveling and house minding; and most of all, the love of our families. Always in our hearts and minds, Don will live on.
Dear Kathy,
I learned of Don’s sudden death in Spain with great shock and sadness. Don and I shared many wonderful sporting experiences and got to know each other well over the obligatory post-match beer (or two…). He was a great guy with a zest for life, and a great, competitive sportsman- to give just one example, his age-shooting golf achievements have inspired me to attempt something similar ( tho no doubt not as impressive!). He was a generous, caring man, and his commitment to MS, love of family ( I was charmed by his relationship with his neat grandson) etc confirmed his admirable character.
I know he thoroughly enjoyed his European (and Alabama) holidays; on a somewhat tangential note I was most grateful for Don pointing me the wonderful (bargain!) apartment holiday we had in Orvieto about 3 years ago. Similarly, regarding your son-in-law’s wine import sideline, Don and I exchanged emails re my son-in-law/daughter’s Kelowna winery just a couple of weeks ago after you had arrived in Spain.
Sadly we were still in Cuba last Thursday (got back yesterday) so I was unable to be at “the Dale”. However my thoughts were and are with you and I hope in time the great memories will somewhat counterbalance the loss you feel now.
With my best regards,
Nigel Paterson
